About Due North Guide Service
Brian Gilbert is the proud owner and operator of Due North Guide Service.
From a young age, Brian had a passion for hunting and fishing. He was lucky enough to be born in beautiful Michigan and realized how plentiful our state could be. As a child he spent much of his time following his mom with a fishing pole or his dad with a hunting rifle, learning how to read the water for fish, what to look for in the woods for deer, and overall how to be a steward of the land.
Fast forward when it was time for him to leave home and start the journey of adulthood, he decided to head to the gorgeous Upper Peninsula to pursue a career in the forestry industry from Michigan Tech. While living in the Upper Peninsula he discovered fly fishing and the joy of native brook trout. Soon he became an avid fly angler and would search for any water that he deemed "fishy".
Over the years Brian realized that fishing was a passion he could turn into a career, a passion he could share with others and help make positive changes in the industry. He began guiding professionally in 2017 and has been on the water every day since.
Brian offers guided trips using conventional spinning gear or fly gear, depending on the target species and client preferences. He welcomes clients of all ages and all experience levels, catering the trip to ensure the client leaves with a great memory and a new story to tell. He offers one on one casting lessons as well if you're new, a little rusty or just want a quick tune up!

Jess may be Brian's other half, but she's also the powerhouse behind the scenes. While Brian is on the water guiding, Jess is making sure the logistics of the business runs smoothly. She's responsible for the awesome Due North Guide Service swag, creating new stickers, our in house photographer and a budding amateur fly tier. When she's not working full time in a fly shop or hiding behind the computer, she can be found on the water with a fly rod in her hand searching for trophy pike.
